Accelerated Learning

Explore information on AP and IB Courses, CTE education, and expanded options for students to take alongside their high school education.

Different Forms of Accelerated Learning

  • High School Based College Credits provide students with secondary and postsecondary credit for a course offered in a high school during regular school hours and taught by high school instructors. Some names for different high school based college credit options are Dual Credit, Sponsored Dual Credit, and Assessment-Based Learning Credit, College Now, The Willamette Promise, Pathfinders, and others all over the state.
  • Advanced Placement programs using approved syllabi and College Board copyrighted national examinations created in partnership with college faculty.  Students can earn college credit once they enroll in college. How the course credit counts in your major will vary by institution and area of study.
  • International Baccalaureate is an internationally benchmarked course of study that trains teachers and uses ongoing program review and international student assessments. Students can earn credit when they enroll in college depending on their score on the IB assessment and the policies of the college or university they attend. How the course credit counts in your major will vary by institution and area of study.
  • Online college courses specifically designed for high school students
  • Expanded Options allow students to attend an eligible postsecondary institution either full- or part-time to complete their high school diplomas and earn college credits with costs paid for by the local school district (such as Expanded Options, some Early and Middle Colleges).
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, sometimes referred to as “Two Plus Two" or "Tech Prep," offer career-focused pathways aligning curriculum and articulation of credit between high schools and postsecondary programs.
